The use of ultrasounds in liquids can result in dramatic effects: intense local heating (~5000 K), high pressures (~1000 atm), enormous heating and cooling rates (>109 K/sec) and liquid jet streams (~400 km/h). Several (beneficial) effects in chemical reactions and processes are observed. http://www.organicworldwide.net/valueadded/ 2. Molecules of the Month (June 2004) Cinoxate: absorbs light in the UV-B part of the sunlight spectrum, used in water-resistant sunscreen lotions. Chlorogenic Acid: polyphenol compound (antioxidant), present in small amounts in coffee. Orange B: a FDA-approved a food color additive. Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol): benzodiazepine, prescribed for the short-term treatment of severe sleep disorders. http://www.bris.ac.uk/Depts/Chemistry/MOTM/motm.htm Alagebrium chloride: first in a new class of compounds that have been shown in vitro and in vivo to reverse advanced glycation end-product (AGE) crosslinking. http://www.prous.com/mom/mom.asp 3. Upcoming Organic Synthesis Conferences (July 2004) July 04-09, 2004; Spain Gordon Research Conference on Heterocyclic Compounds July 04-09, 2004; USA 14th European Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry July 11-16, 2004; Poland Belgian Organic Synthesis Symposium (BOSS-10) July 12-16, 2004; Belgium 10th International Conference on Organic Research & Development July 13-16, 2004; Canada Second International Symposium on Bioorganometallic Chemistry, ISBOMC'04 July 14-17, 2004; Switzerland 11th International Conference on Polymers and Organic Chemistry 2004 July 18-23, 2004; Czech Republic 22nd International Carbohydrate Symposium July 23-27, 2004; United Kingdom XXIst International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry July 25-30, 2004; Canada 4. Database of 3456 Free Chromatography Applications The public database contains detailed applications provided by the major column vendors. Applications can be searched by numerous chromatographic parameters, as well as by structure, substructure, and structure similarity. http://www.acdlabs.com/public_chrom_db5. Renewable Bioresources: Scope and Modification for Non-Food Applications
Written by experts in each field, coverage includes the impetus for sustainability and clean technology, the concept of integral valorisation of crops and the minimalisation of waste, an overview of the use of resources in high-value industries such as flavours, fragrances and natural dyes; and green chemistry and sustainability. http://www.synbioc.ugent.be/book.html
