1. Membrane Separation in Organic Synthesis Organic chemists are often confronted with tedious separations. In addition to the conventional techniques (destillation, liquid-liquid extraction, chromatography, etc.), membranes can sometimes offer a convenient solution to the separation problem. http://www.organicworldwide.net/valueadded/ 2. Molecules of the Month (May 2004) Benzene: the "mother" of aromatic compounds. Coronene: Aromatic molecule consisting of 7 benzene rings. Eugenol: used in perfumes and mouthwashes, but also as an insect attractant and a dental analgesic. Merbromin: a bright red antiseptic (trade name mercurochrome), but not often used for that purpose anymore. Osmium Tetroxide: a powerful oxidising agent. http://www.bris.ac.uk/Depts/Chemistry/MOTM/motm.htm Torcetrapib: a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor, currently in advanced-stage clinical testing. http://www.prous.com/mom/mom.asp 3. Upcoming Organic Synthesis Conferences (June 2004) Balticum Organicum Syntheticum 2004 9th International Symposium on the Chemistry and Pharmacology of Pyridazines 4. Annual review molecular modelling programs The list concentrates on programs for which the source code is available in some form and which are available freely or cheaply. http://www.ch.cam.ac.uk/MMRG/CIL/cil_v7n6.html#615. Science of Synthesis Version 2.0 This new updated version contains a new and highly intuitive interface along with the inclusion of information from four more volumes.
