Synthesis Alerts is a free current awareness tool focusing on new reagents, catalysts, ligands,
chiral auxiliaries, and protecting groups which have appeared in the recent literature. In each abstract, a specific example of a transformation is
given in a concise format.
2. Molecules of the Month (November 2004) Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO): a versatile polar aprotic solvent known e.g. for its garlic-like odor and easy skin penetrating properties. Isohumulones: retard bacterial growth and contribute to beer's bitter flavor. Lutein: carotenoid compound, found e.g. in pumpkin pie and dark leafy greens, that acts as an antioxidant in the body. Acetaminophen: relieves pain and reduces fever without reducing inflammation or inhibiting blood coagulation. Morphine : sedative and painkiller. http://www.bris.ac.uk/Depts/Chemistry/MOTM/motm.htm Rotigotine hydrochloride: a dopamine D2 agonist, researched as a first-line treatment in Parkinson's disease. http://www.prous.com/mom/mom.asp 3. Upcoming Organic Synthesis Conferences (December 2004) Target-Based Compound Libraries CPhI Worldwide 2004 International Symposium on Catalysis and Fine Chemicals 2004 December 12-15 2004, Hong Kong, Asia Overview of protecting group types for amino, carbonyl, carboxyl and hydroxyl (1,2- and 1,3-Diols) functional groups and their stability towards water (pH), bases, nucleophiles, electrophiles, reduction and oxidation. organic-chemistry.org5. Side Reactions in Organic Synthesis: A Guide to Successful Synthesis Design
This textbook highlights the competing processes and limitations of the most important reactions used in organic synthesis. By allowing chemists to quickly recognize potential problems this book will help to improve their efficiency and success-rate. Book details |
