The Journal of Organic Chemistry publishes on regular basis (3-4 months) an overview of recent reviews. Major English-language sources of critical reviews are covered. Encyclopedic treatises, annual surveys such as Specialist Periodical Reports, and compilations of symposia proceedings are omitted. 2. Molecules of the Month (September 2005) CelecoxibTM: The active ingredient in the arthritis pain reliever Celebrex, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Amentoflavone: A mild antidepressant found in many plants. Lithium bromide: An extremely hygroscopic chemical commonly used in absorption chillers, where water is the refrigerant. Proflavine: A synthetic acridine dye used as a powerful antiseptic during WWII to dress wounds. Dioxin: The pollutant that caused the Seveso disaster. http://www.bris.ac.uk/Depts/Chemistry/MOTM/motm.htm Bifeprunox mesilate: A putative full-spectrum atypical antipsychotic compound aimed at the treatment of both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. http://www.prous.com/molecules/default.asp?ID=139 3. Upcoming Organic Synthesis Conferences (October 2005) CRC International Symposium on Cross-Coupling and Organometallics
PubChem provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. It is a component of NIH's Molecular Libraries Roadmap Initiative and contains about 3,500,000 entries including the ZINC docking chemicals database. 5. Nucleic Acids Symposium Series
